Bay Area Environmental Partners
In 2018, COAL + ICE amplified the work of local and national environmental organizations who are year-round focused on combating climate change and engaged in finding solutions, encouraging audience members to join the fight and learn more about taking action on climate through these organizations.
Sierra Club
Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization — with three million members and supporters. Sierra Club’s successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, Sierra Club has made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy.
Beyond Coal
Beyond Coal is a campaign of the Sierra Club. The Beyond Coal campaign’s main objective is to replace dirty coal with clean energy by mobilizing grassroots activists in local communities to advocate for the retirement of old and outdated coal plants and to prevent new coal plants from being built.
Earthjustice
Today’s environmental challenges are greater than ever. But we live in a country of strong environmental laws—and Earthjustice holds those who break our nation’s laws accountable for their actions. Earthjustice has been the legal backbone for thousands of organizations, large and small. As the nation’s original and largest nonprofit environmental law organization, they leverage their expertise and commitment to fight for justice and advance the promise of a healthy world for all. They represent every one of their clients free of charge.
Right to Zero
Right to Zero is a campaign of Earthjustice. The Right to Zero campaign is transforming the way we use energy and transport goods, services and ourselves across California. From our power grid to ports, buses to garbage trucks, it’s time for California to ditch fossil fuels and lead the shift to zero-emissions. Why is Earthjustice fighting for zero? To save lives, protect our climate and strengthen our economy. We won’t just imagine a zero-emissions future. We will live it.
Union of Concerned Scientists
The Union of Concerned Scientists puts rigorous, independent science to work to solve our planet’s most pressing problems. Joining with people across the country, they combine technical analysis and effective advocacy to create innovative, practical solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future.
Dream Corps
The Dream Corps was founded by Van Jones in 2014 to help cutting-edge initiatives grow big enough to impact millions of lives, with the slogan is “21st-century jobs, not jails.” The Dream Corps supports economic, environmental and criminal justice innovators – all under one roof. Their shared platform helps leaders create synergies, leapfrog obstacles and maximize impact. Every day, they are reshaping “what’s possible” in the field of social justice.
Green For All
Green For All is an initiative of the Dream Corps. The two biggest problems facing our country—and the world—are runaway climate change and rising inequality. We can’t fully solve one without addressing the other. If we eliminate racism and poverty but do nothing to address climate pollution, we’ll all be equal on a planet plagued by floods, drought, disease, and disasters. And we can’t win on climate unless we build a bigger and broader movement that meets the needs of the hardest-hit Americans. Green For All is working to turn the tide on both fronts.
350 Bay Area
Part of the global network of local 350.org groups, 350 Bay Area takes action to stabilize and protect our climate. 350 Bay Area is building a grassroots climate movement in the Bay Area & beyond that achieves deep reductions in carbon pollution and presses for socially equitable solutions and a just transition to clean energy.
NRDC
NRDC works to safeguard the earth—its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. They combine the power of more than three million members and online activists with the expertise of some 600 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild.
