Bay Area Events

In September 2018, COAL + ICE made its U.S. premiere at the Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco. The exhibition served as a stage for a three-week festival of events seeking to amplify the conversation about climate change and explore visionary solutions. The COAL+ICE festival brought together unlikely collaborators—a broad array of prominent cultural, environmental, business, and political figures—to perform, speak, and otherwise weigh in, each in their own way, to call attention to the perils of not addressing global climate change, and to share their vision of a path forward. On September 13, the exhibition hosted a 500-person vegetarian dinner for then California Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Summit, with food by the Bay Area’s own Alice Waters.
