Climate of Change: Innovation and Action for a New Environmental Politics with Mother Jones
September 6 | 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Join reader-supported investigative news organization Mother Jones at the COAL + ICE exhibition for a discussion about climate politics.
Almost from the moment the Trump administration took over, the rollbacks of efforts to protect the planet from global warming began. The appointment of an EPA administrator committed to advancing industry interests, the attack on research funding, the withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement, and the nearly weekly gutting of regulations have marked a radical turnaround in US environmental and climate policy.
Yet nearly every day there is new evidence of the reality of climate change. Natural disasters, extreme weather, and evidence of rising CO2 levels, are daily reminders that the consequences of these policy decisions are real, and dramatic, for people across the country and the world.
Is there any hope?
Join former senior advisor to the EPA and current member of the Hip Hop Caucus Mustafa Ali, geologist-turned- congressional candidate Jess Phoenix, and Mother Jones’ Rebecca Leber as they take stock of the state of climate politics—from the rollback in Washington to the resurgence of civic energy around science and environmental issues in cities, states, and at the grassroots. Science educator and correspondent Kishore Hari moderates the conversation.
